Sporty, intelligent and designed to maximise space, the new Hyundai i20 Coupe will be available from May 2015 and it is set to provide an exceptional motoring experience.
The three-door model is being aimed at younger buyers, who are seen as more “lifestyle orientated” than traditional Hyundai drivers. With the same engine line-up as the five-door version, buyers will get access to a 1.2-litre petrol engine or three diesel choices, offering up to 99bhp.
The most interesting engine choice though will be added at a later date and will be a 1.0-litre T-GDI option, which will be available with either 99bhp or 123bhp. Tony Whitethorn, the President and CEO of Hyundai Motors UK, has said the lower CO2 emissions, better fuel economy and increased power will appeal to most drivers.
The new Hyundai i20 Coupe will share its platform with the standard i20 Hatchback, but it has a much lower exterior shape, featuring a sloping roofline and hexagonal grille as well as reshaped bumpers and a small roof spoiler. It will be practical as well as stylish however, with a best-in-class boot space of 336 litres, which is larger than the five-door Ford Focus model and a 10-litre increase on the Hatchback version. Inside you can have the option of an orange trim interior which features a whole host of driver and safety technologies, all intuitively placed to be within easy reach of the driver.
It’s an exciting time for Hyundai, with the i20 Coupe forming part of the company’s Product Momentum 2017 plans. Announced at the end of 2014, this is just the third of 22 model design updates scheduled between now and 2017.
The i20 Coupe offers a very attractive proposition to younger drivers who want a unique mix of style and practicality and the fresh-faced design is set to be popular, with Hyundai anticipating sales at around the 20,000 mark for both the Hatchback and Coupe version.
