Nissan is setting out to make the new Pulsar Nismo the most eye-catching and inspiring hot hatch on the market. The model was previewed at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014, and since then drivers and dealers alike have been eagerly anticipating this sporty new car.
In design, the Pulsar hatchback evolves into a confident model that clearly takes its inspiration from the racetrack. It shows off a Nismo red and white paintwork style, as well as larger wheels and a low-slung bodykit. The overall look feels made for the track, and it generates excitement as soon as you glance in the car’s direction.
The Pulsar Nismo is expected to generate an impressive 275bhp using a potent turbo engine, but this has yet to be confirmed. It will need to be stronger than both current versions of the Juke Nismo. Larger air intakes at the front of the car show that Nissan is prepared to pack the Pulsar with as much force as possible.
Nissan is aiming for the Nürburgring with the hot hatch, fully intending to smash the record for front-wheel drive cars. That time currently stands at 7:50:63 – clocked earlier in 2015 by the Honda Civic Type R. Getting the lap down to sub-eight minutes is a tall order, and we are looking forward to Nissan’s response to the challenge.
The road version will clearly be lots of fun to drive. When the concept appeared in Paris, it had a focus on track performance. Expect Nissan to pack the showroom-ready Pulsar Nismo with heaps of safety features and clever technologies. They won’t appear in the track model, as of course the manufacturer needs to keep weight down to have a chance at that Nürburgring record.
