We’re delighted that eight members of staff at our Hadfield Road dealership in Cardiff have signed up to take part in a raft race in aid of the dealership’s Charity of the Year.
The race will take place on Sunday, June 5 in aid of George Thomas Hospice Care. Our team is very excited about the raft race and are currently designing a raft at the workshop so fingers crossed it will keep them afloat! They are hoping to raise at least £500 for the charity.
This is the seventh annual Raft Race and it will take place from midday on June 5 along the beautiful river Taff. It will start at Llandaff Rowing Club and consists of 1,000m upstream paddle and then turning around and racing back another 1,000m. The event will be fun for all the family with food and entertainment from 11am.
Last year the total raised for the charity was £12,000 and this year we’re hoping to help it raise even more money. Last year’s victors and defending their title this time is the Royal Exchange Pub on Ty Mawr Road in Llandaff North. They have won the race four times so we have some stiff competition.
If you would like to sponsor the Wessex Garages’ raft race team, please drop in to the dealership on Hadfield Road or visit www.justgiving.com/Wessex-Garages. People can also donate by texting GTHC88 £2/£5/£10 to 70070.
As Wessex Garages is the principal sponsor for the fundraising event it has also loaned the charity a new Nissan Qashqai to help promote the raft race and to help staff members travel around. George Thomas Hospice Care will have the vehicle until after the event in June.
Nicky Piper MBE, Corporate Fundraising & Events Manager for George Thomas Hospice Care, said: “It’s fantastic news that Wessex Garages is entering our annual raft race. I would like to wish them good luck with their raft design and I can’t wait to see it on the day.
“I would also like to thank them for being our principal sponsor for the event and loaning us the Nissan Qashqai. The vehicle will help us to promote the event and also with our transport needs. Wessex Garages’ support is a tremendous help.”
